Singer and Hahn Discuss Upcoming FCC Spectrum Auction in Washington Post

The Washington Post today published a column by Criterion President Hal Singer and AEI-Brookings Joint Center executive director Robert Hahn discussing the upcoming FCC 700 MHz spectrum auction. Singer and Hahn criticize the proposal by Frontline Wireless, the front-runner in the auction, to attach a number of strings to the auction that would essentially allow Frontline to acquire the spectrum without any serious competition. The economists explain that not only will the lack of competition in the auction reduce the revenue for the federal government but it also creates the risk that the spectrum could lie dormant for years while Frontline attempts to free itself of license restrictions.
