Singer Discusses Net Neutrality in Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
May 4, 2008
A Pittsburgh Post-Gazette article on net neutrality quoted Criterion president Hal J. Singer on the question of whether Comcast's traffic management policy is reasonable. Dr. Singer explained that if one heavy downloader "ruins the experience [for others], I understand why they want to toggle that down ... most reasonable people would say, let Comcast do what it needs to do."
Regarding the larger net neutrality debate, Dr. Singer noted that some websites fear discriminatory prices for enhanced service offerings, such as priority delivery. Because this form of discrimination has yet to occur, however, Dr. Singer explained that it is "speculative and premature to write nondiscrimination rules" at this time.
